Kathmandu, Dec.12: The Blue Diamond Society has urged the government to give space to the third gender in the new Constituent Assembly (CA).

The society, an organisation working to protect and promote the rights of the third gender, called for allocating at least three seats to the homosexual and third genders while nominating 26 CA members from the Cabinet and bringing an ‘inclusive bill’ for guarantee of third genders in the state apparatus.

Programme coordinator Sanjay Sharma accused the political parties of using third genders for partisan interests during the CA election and then forgetting them.

Third gender Bhumika Shrestha said the political parties neglected their participation while nominating the name of Proportional Representation (PR) candidates. “We are on a peaceful agitation for our rights, but will launch series of agitation if our demands are not met”,  Shrestha said.
