Chitwan, Dec. 11: The 41st national executive council of Nepal Bar Association (NBA) and National Workshop on Human Rights concluded in Bharatpur on Wednesday with 19-point Chitwan Declaration.

Calling upon the political parties to promulgate a new constitution within a year after the first meeting of the Constituent Assembly (CA), the NBA demanded the convening of CA meeting ending the political dispute first.

The declaration adopted in the two-day meeting has stated it would challenge the spirit of independent judiciary if incumbent executive chief came to claim leadership in judiciary again, calling for the side concerned not to create such situation.

Likewise, among other points stated in the declaration include representing legal practitioners and ensuring at least 33 per cent of women participation while nominating CA members under Proportional Representation category.

Also demanded is immediate set up of Truth and Reconciliation Commission and Commission on Disappeared in line with the Supreme Court verdict and international standard.

Drawing the attention of deteriorating health status of Ganga Maya and Nanda Prasad Adhikari, who are on hunger strike, the meeting urged the government to address their demands accordingly.

As many as 1,000 representatives of 86 NBA chapters across the country participated in the meeting. RSS
