Two killed in elephant attack

Gaur (Rautahat), Dec. 11: Two members of the same family died and one other has sustained injuries after wild elephants mauled them at Laxminiya of Rautahat district this morning.

The deceased are 65-year-old Govinda Giri and his son 32-year-old Suman Giri. They were sleeping in their house when a herd of wild elephants entered a settlement at Laxminiya VDC-9 and went on a rampage. They died on the spot, police said.

Eyewitnesses said that wild elephants dragged them from their beds to the field outside and trampled them to death. Umesh Rakhal who was also sleeping in the house managed to save himself running away from there in injured condition. He is being treated at the Narayani Sub-regional Hospital in Birgunj.
