NC, UCPN (Maoist) agree to promulgate new constitution within a year

Kathmandu, Dec. 8: The Nepali Congress and the UCPN (Maoist) have agreed to promulgate the new constitution within a year.

During the meeting between the two parties held at the residence of Chairman of the UCPN (Maoist), Pushpa Kamal Dahal, in Lazimpat today, discussion was held to promulgate the new constitution within a year.

On the occasion, NC urged the UCPN (Maoist) to participate in constitution drafting process and to accept the people’s mandate.

Whereas, the UCPN (Maoist) demanded for the formation of a high-level probe commission to carryout investigation on rigging and policy flaws seen in course of election to the Constituent Assembly (CA).

Stating that UCPN (Maoist) was in favour of peace and constitution, Chairman Dahal demanded investigation of structural, policy and institutional rigging taking place in CA election.

On UCPN (Maoist)’s demand, the NC told that all the issues would be resolved through discussion and talks, said Vice-President of NC, Ram Chandra Poudel.

Poudel said that today’s meeting was positive and added that they urged the UCPN (Maoist) to support the constitution writing.

He said that although the UCPN (Maoist) demanded investigation on different issues including rigging, the meeting was positive in general.

The NC Vice-President further said that both the parties held discussions openly today and both the parties are flexible for resolving problems.Both the parties have agreed to hold discussions again, it is learnt.

President Sushil Koirala, Vice-President Ram Chandra Poudel, General Secretary duo- Prakashman Singh and Krishna Prasad Sitaula, Treasurer Chitralekha Yadav from the NC and Chairman Dahal and leaders Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, Narayankaji Shrestha and Posta Bahadur Bogati from the UCPN (Maoist) were present in the meeting.

The NC and the CPN (UML) in the meeting held on Saturday had decided to hold separate meetings with the UCPN (Maoist) today.
