Minister Ghimire to attend Mandela funeral

Kathmandu, Dec. 7: The government has decided to send Minister for Foreign Affairs Madhav Prasad Ghimire to attend a tribute-paying ceremony to the anti-apartheid movement leader and former President of South Africa, Nelson Mandela, to take place in South Africa on coming December 10.

A meeting of the Council of Ministers held at the Prime Minister’s residence at Baluwatar this evening decided to send a Nepali delegation headed by Minister Ghimire to participate in the ceremony, said the government Spokesperson and Minister for Information and Communications, Madhav Poudel.

Likewise, the Cabinet also decided to fly the national flag at half-mast in government offices and its diplomatic missions in different countries outside and not to hold any formal government functions during three days on December 8-10.

Expressing grief on the passing away of the champion of freedom, equality and democracy and an epitome of peace, justice and struggle, the government has wished for the eternal peace of the departed soul.

The former President Mandela passed away on Thursday night on December 5. RSS
