Chitwan, Nov. 30: More than 69 people died of HIV/AIDS in the district till date.

Out of the deceased, 50 are males, 16 females, one third gendered and one child, said Hari Neupane, Coordinator at the District AIDS Coordination Committee.

The number of people who died of the decease has come down in recent days due to used of consuming Anti retroviral medicine.

As many as 483 people, affected by the disease have taken medicine in Bharatpur area, said Dr. Unnat Shrestha.

It is estimated that some 2,000 people are affected by the disease and 981 affected people are receiving medicine and others have not come in contact due to hesitation in the district, said coordinator Neupane.

The cause behind its infection is unsafe sexual intercourse and use of infected injections, say experts.

Though some 15 NGOs have invested a huge amount of money, Rs. 27,877,964 last year alone to prevent the disease in the district, it has remained ineffective. RSS
