Nepal’s politics should be based on consensus: US

Kathmandu, Nov. 26: Ambassador of the United States of America to Nepal, Peter W Bodde, called on UCPN (Maoist) leader Dr. Baburam Bhattarai this morning.

In the meeting, the UCPN (Maoist) leader said that the rigging that took place in the Constituent Assembly election should be investigated into in a free and fair manner, according to Bishwadeep Pandey, Bhattarai’s aide.

On the occasion, Bhattarai also stated that his party could not exit from the peace and the constitution-writing process and that the incidents of poll-related malpractices that have come out in the public should be probed and the bodies concerned should move forward the process in this connection.

Leader Bhattarai informed the U.S. Ambassador that his party has put forward a condition that the peace and constitution-writing process should be completed and the issues of government formation and constitution should be finalized through political consensus.

In the meeting, Ambassador Bodde said his country wished Nepal’s politics move ahead based on consensus. The meeting took place at Bhattarai’s residence at Sanepa.

Bodde suggests Koirala to focus on constitution drafting

The US Ambassador to Nepal, Peter W Bodde, has called on Nepali Congress President, Sushil Koirala this morning.            During the meeting held at Koirala’s residence at Maharagunj, the US Ambassador suggested Koirala to be engaged in constitution writing as soon as possible by maintaining political stability.

Suggesting Koirala to carry out works bringing all political parties into confidence on the basis of consensus, US Ambassador Bodde congratulated Koirala for his party’s success in the election to the Constituent Assembly (CA) under the leadership of Koirala, said Koirala’s personal aide, Laxman Dhakal.
