Kathmandu, Oct. 5: An alliance of 33 political parties led by CPN-Maoist has urged the candidates standing in the upcoming Constituent Assembly (CA) election to withdraw their candidacies.

CPN-Maoist General Secretary Dev Gurung has, on behalf of the alliance, written a request letter addressed to the election candidates to this end. The letter reads: “The 33 parties’ alliance heartily requests you to withdraw your candidacy and thereby support the campaign aimed at forging the national consensus as the forced election fixed for November 19 is just intended at inviting another conflict in the country.”

A four-point proposal presented by the alliance with a call for forging the national consensus to ensure a new constitution was rejected without any discussions, the letter mentions, adding, “The government decision to mobilize the army during the election would fuel crisis in the country, thereby putting  the prestige of nation in peril”.
