Chitwan, Oct. 26: The members of Chepang community from remote hilly part in Chitwan district have arrived Ratnanagar and Sauraha by seeking a market for their organic vegetable produces.

“We have arrived Sauraha as our vegetable produces decayed in the village due to lack of a market. We have heard that foreigners in Sauraha prefer organic produces,” Shankar Chepang of Korak said.

Lately, the Chepang people of Korak, Siddhi and Shaktikhor areas have started up producing organic vegetable as the tubers in the forests were insufficient to meet their yearly demand.

Likewise, Garva Singh Chepang is also hopeful of making some money after selling the organic vegetables in Sauraha.

However, leader of Chepang community Dal Bahadur Praja said that they have crisis of market as the elites in town pay less to the vegetables produced by the poor in the villages.

Secretary of Korak VDC Chandra Prasad Neupane said the vegetable farming could contribute to the village development if proper market was managed.

Senior Officer at the District Agriculture Office, Chitwan, Rajaram Adhikari suggested the tourism entrepreneurs in Sauraha to purchase the vegetables produced by the Chepang as the organic vegetables were good for human health.

Likewise, tourism entrepreneur Subas Gautam said they were ready to buy the organic vegetables grown by Chepang if the latter maintain regular supply. RSS
