Biratnagar, 30 Dec- Random excavation and quarrying by a crusher industry at the local Chisang river has jeopardized nearly 480 houses in the environs.

After the houses from Kritipur and Kamalpur villages on either sides of the river are put to risk by the crusher industry, the people here have demanded the industry to stop illegal excavation.

A struggle committee has been formed in the village to exert pressure on the industry and other stakeholders to tame the haphazard activities of the crusher industry.

The villagers have accused the industry of ignoring the agreement made before the establishment of the industry.

The struggle committee coordinator Kishor Bhattarai said, “The owner of the industry had agreed to develop the villages, but it is gradually threatening environment, destroying arable land and likely to displace the villagers.”

Not development but destruction is caused by the crusher industry, said chairman of local Sunrise Club, Santosh Rai.

Admitting the problems caused by the industry, its owner Bhim Poudel said the villagers’ problems would be addressed after discussion.
